Whew — what a year (really 16 months) it has been!! Serving on the 2026 Caldecott Committee has been the highest professional honor of my career as well as being one of the most exhilarating, exhausting, & rewarding growth experiences. I am so proud to have been part of the deep work this committee of 15 people came together to do in analyzing children’s book illustrations and selecting these distinguished winning books.
And please remember, even if your personal favorite isn’t on this particular list, that does not mean you can’t still love & share & lift up that book!

I am so honored to have been a part of this process in deeply analyzing 2025 illustrated books! Now that the committee has announced the winning and honored titles, I also look forward to being able to pull together posts sharing some text sets based on my personal thoughts (outside of the committee work and award criteria) with some of the hundreds of picture books I read over the past year that I haven’t been able to talk about! There are so many beyond those with the shiny award stickers that will make excellent additions to your classrooms and libraries and that will be wonderful choices for #ClassroomBookADay read alouds.
