Oh, how my heart expanded reading this magical pic Oh, how my heart expanded reading this magical picture book. @deborahmarcero has given us a charming sibling story that is a fantastical visual delight. If I were on this year's Caldecott Committee, I would definitely have The Great Escape high on my short list of titles to consider nominating for discussion come January. Make sure to check this out for your #ClassroomBookADay read alouds next school year!

Over the last decade, this is perhaps the picture Over the last decade, this is perhaps the picture book I've had reason to recommend more than any other. Because when searching for a book to help young people navigate grieving the loss of a loved one, this story of the old turtle reminds us that it's what they taught us that leaves an impact on our lives, and carrying those lessons with us helps us carry them with us.
ALWAYS REMEMBER written by Cece Meng & illustrated by Jago is my go-to when someone asks for a book to share with a family or community dealing with a loss. I hope that it brings comfort to those who need it at a time when it matters.
Sadly, last week when tragedy struck a family at my school, knowing I could reach for this book to gift to the family with three young girls who unexpectedly and suddenly lost their father, reminded me again of the power of picture books to connect, comfort, and strengthen community.
