In My Mailbox – New Books This Week (18)

April 3, 2011

In My Mailbox is a shared posting idea run by Kristi at The Story Siren (read all about it here: In My Mailbox) for bloggers to share the books they’ve gotten that week to help publicize as many titles as possible. IMM is a semi-regular feature here on Teach 8 YA Book Blog to let my students know the books to be looking for on the classroom shelves and for blog readers to know what book reviews to anticipate along with building excitement about new titles coming out. All titles link to goodreads so you can add books to your “to-read” list.

Blog Tour (Star Book Tours)

 THE ANTI-PROM by Abby McDonald
Sounds like a good girl-power book and timely

Bought (Couldn’t resist one last trip to Borders or using a B&N gift card! And added a couple more to my dystopian list)

ENTWINED by Heather Dixon
Sounds like an interesting mythology-ish tale and has a gorgeous cover!

BABE IN BOYLAND by Jody Gehrman
Just sounds really cute

REAL LIVE BOYFRIENDS by e. lockhart
Needed to complete the Ruby Oliver series (although I miss the original covers!)

PATHFINDER by Orson Scott Card
Sounds like a good fantasy and boy book

STUCK IN NEUTRAL by Terry Trueman
Familiar title and a Printz Honor Book – short and sounds intense

TRASH by Andy Mulligan
Dystopian I’ve heard great things about

ROT & RUIN by Jonathan Mayberry
Zombie dystopian and total boy book

DELIRIUM by Lauren Oliver
Had to get another copy because too many girls want to read it and I didn’t have enough to go around – not a bad problem to have!

Stuck in Neutral is absolutely amazing, and it really is an intense read but well worth it!

Awesome books and all on my to-read list! I've heard lots of great things about DELIRIUM, especially, and THE ANTI-PROM sounds sweet and funny. Not enough of those around! Actually, I can't even pick favorites, and if I tried to comment on why I want to read all of these books this would turn into a blog post in and of itself. =) Happy reading!

You got some great books! I can't wait to read Entwined, the cover is so beautiful. Did you know it's based on the fairytale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses"? I didn't know until another blogger mentioned it, so I looked it up and read it. I hope the book is great!

Feel free to check out what's in my mailbox this week.

Entwined looks stunning! I really need to get a copy of that! I also got a second copy of Delirium this week, but for different reasons, hehe

All of these books look fantastic, especially Real Live Boyfriends and The Anti-Prom. I hope your students like them! I read Entwined, but was a bit disappointed. I'm interested to hear what you think!

School's out for summer & the weather was perfect School's out for summer & the weather was perfect for reading outside this weekend. Couldn't resist choosing this YA romantasy touted as "Taylor Swift's 'Vigilante Sh*t' meets The Gilded Age" for my first summer break read!

Finding moments of joy where I can. There are two Finding moments of joy where I can. There are two days left of this school year. A year that started with sitting in the corner crying due to the overwhelm of the massive task ahead of us to get ready for the first day upon walking in & seeing the state of the library after summer renovation work. A year of ups & downs & all arounds. All the way to today when we had the giddy joy of our brand new booktrucks being delivered. They are pretty & sturdy & glide smoothly & elevate the look of the whole library while making our lives easier. Farewell old, dented, wobbly, rusty, beige carts. IYKYK. Bahama blue, turquoise, teal, sundrop, & calming lavender are taking over. Thank you for the colorful options, helpful customer service, & quick response shipping before school ends @demcoinc!!

Love this reminder of the power of children's lite Love this reminder of the power of children's literature from the introduction in Show & Tell: Exploring the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration! Reading it this weekend to continue building background knowledge for my work on the Caldecott Committee this year.

"In this regard, we truly suffer from an embarrassment of riches. Children's books have never looked better or been more
important. They are one of the few quiet places left where a child can go to be alone, and to travel worlds past, present, and future. They are often the first place children discover poetry and art, honor and loyalty, right and wrong, sadness and hope. And it is there between the pages that children discover the power of their own imaginations. They are indeed a dress rehearsal for life."
